[32] a boring moment to exercise our free will
Can we spend an hour staring at the ceiling? What if we just refused to doom-scrolling or YouTube hopping? Refuse to watch drama or movies. Refuse to binge-watch reality shows. Refuse to listen to music, audiobooks or podcasts. Lie on bed and stare at the ceiling for a good one hour.
Are we wasting time? Yeah. Are we using the power of free will? Absolutely. Are we going to be bored for an hour? Probably. Are we free from constant stimulants? Good question. There's a constant stimulant around us, whether we realize it or not. Nothing bad ever happens during the boring moments of our life. We start to feel bad and messy when we allow constant noises into our brain. I totally get it if grandpa just sat on the porch and stared at the horizon, watching cars and passersby. I get Perfect Days's next time is next time, now is now. I get the appeal of Northern Italy in Call Me By Your Name. I get the redditors in r/simpleliving. I get Cillian Murphy. I get it.
The entertainment industry is worth billions of dollars internationally. An hour staring at the ceiling might do us more favors than we think.
I want to be bored,
